Dr. Graves Thompson, 96 Retired Professor Dies Monday

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Dec. 30 – Dr. Graves Haydon Thompson, 96, of Hampden-Sydney, died Monday, December 29, 2003 at his residence.

He was born May 4, 1907 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Ernest and Jimmie Graves Thompson.

Dr. Thompson was a retired Latin and Greek professor at Hampden-Sydney College.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Short and her husband, Alexander of Baltimore, MD and Cynthia Modlin and her husband, Wayne of Midlothian and five grandchildren, Joseph, Ashley and Justin Short, Courtney and James Alien Thompson Modlin.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at College Church in Hampden-Sydney with interment in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the residence, 220 College Road, Hampden-Sydney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hampden-Sydney College.
