Hazel Geraldine Johnson Glover, 80, of Kennesaw, GA, transitioned peacefully in her home, with her daughter, son-in-law, and dear friend by her side February 1, 2017. She was born March 28, 1936 in Murphy, NC to Lora Mae and Elihue Johnson. At Hazel’s age of 10, the family moved to Farmville where she resided, mostly, until 2008 when she moved to the Atlanta area to be with her daughter, Wanda.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Glover and son-in-law, Soren Ryland of Kennesaw, GA; sisters, Ruth McNatt of Sarasota, FL and Linda Melvin of Farmville; brothers, Lloyd Johnson of Rice and Dale Newsome of Phoenix, AZ. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Shelby Jean Hunt of Springfield, MS, and Evelyn Johnson of Farmville, and brothers, Charles Johnson of Laurel, DL and Warren Ralph Johnson of Hendersonville, NV.
Hazel’s role in her family was of unconditional loving glue. She spent all her free time focused on family. In her younger days, she would love to host family gatherings and cook and sing and play music for everyone to enjoy family love. As she got older, she enjoyed the fun and let her daughter do most of the cooking! Hazel had a great sense of humor and would whip out her guitar at gatherings to sing “Hound Dog” or other songs to entertain everyone. And, if you didn’t know Jesus, she’d tell you all about developing a personal relationship with him. Her love, generosity, and compassion touched the life of everyone who met her. Her great gift was empathy and her wish is for us all to be at peace and love one another.
Her memorial service will be held at Self Realization Fellowship, 4000 King Springs Rd SE, Smyrna, GA 30082 on Saturday, February 11 at 1 p.m. If you would like to honor her, call a loved one with whom you haven’t spoken in a while and tell them you love them.
Hazel’s family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and all friends and family (too many to name) for their love and support and honor of Hazel. Condolences can be left for the family at www.GeorgiaFuneralCare.com.
