A Dillwyn man pled guilty recently to arson and other related crimes committed in June at Mullins Auto Body off Route 60.

George Richard Davis Jr., of Dillwyn, was arrested on June 21, for arson of personal property, greater than or equal to $200; bomb/burn threat, and monument: intentional damage, value greater than or equal to $1,000.

Davis pled guilty to the charges in Buckingham County Circuit Court on Jan. 18, according to the Virginia Circuit Court Case Information System. He received a suspended 20-year sentence and was given a 33-year probationary period, three of which will be supervised.

According to Buckingham County Sheriff William G. “Billy” Kidd Jr., the incident took place at the business, located at the intersection of Twin Creek Road and Route 60.

Kidd said Davis was arrested for unrelated charges, threatening a landowner, and confessed to the arson after his arrest.

“He suffers from (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and is supposed to be on medication,” Kidd said. “He was off his medication at the time (of the crime) and he imagined a lot of things.”
