PRINCE EDWARD — A 63-year-old Rice man died as a result of a two-vehicle crash Friday in Prince Edward.
According to State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, Charles E. Atkins died following the crash, reported Friday at 12:40 p.m. on Route 460, less than one mile west of Route 640.
“A 1991 Honda Accord was traveling west on Route 460 when it crossed through the median, continued across the eastbound lanes and struck the guardrail,” Geller said. “The impact of the crash with the guardrail caused the Accord to come back into the eastbound lanes and strike a 1986 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck.
According to Geller, Atkins was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital where he died. Atkins was wearing a seatbelt, she said.
“The driver of the pickup truck, a 64-year-old male from Crewe … was not injured in the crash.”
Geller said at this stage of the investigation, the cause of the crash appears to have been medically-related.
