Wyatt Lee Overton, 76, died Saturday, January 14, 2017.
Wyatt Lee Overton was the former Commissioner of Revenue for Prince Edward County. He was first elected on November 3, 1987, for a four-year term commencing January 1, 1988 and ending December 31, 1991, and re-elected four more terms, for a total of 20 years. He served with personal commitment and selfless dedication to all the citizens of the County of Prince Edward. He was an active member of the Commissioners of the Revenue Association.
He was born December 16, 1940, in Rice, Prince Edward County, the son of the late James Watson Overton Sr., and Mary Grace Thompson Overton. He was predeceased by five brothers, Floyd M. Myers, James Watson Overton Jr., Otto S. Overton, Campbell Lafayette Overton, and Eugene Edward Overton Sr., and two sisters, Breetie Overton Jenkins and Grace Overton Tuttle, and one sister-in-law, Eula Jeter Overton.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Guill Overton; two sons, Wyatt Lee Overton Jr. (Carolyn) and James A. Overton (Summer); one daughter, Margaret Frances Coleman (Michael); grandchildren; Toni F. Brannon, Jennifer Coleman, Christopher Overton, Christian Coleman, Nicholas Overton, and Jackson Overton; four great-grandchildren; brother, W. Quinton Overton Jr. (Ann); sister-in-laws, Mary Overton, Carolyn Overton, Shirley Overton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
