Keys and Theilin to perform

Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) fellows Caroline Keys and Karla Theilen will perform at Scottsville’s historic Victory Hall Theater on Jan. 20 from 6-8 p.m. Keys, a composer/musician, will team up with Theilin, a writer for an “informance” — part performance, part personal anecdote. Both women are from Missoula, Mont., and bring a “vibrant true West vibe to their work that’s funny, touching and utterly engaging,” according to a VCCA press release.
Keys is a part of several bands, including The Shiveries, a chamber-folk group; Glass Spiders, a David Bowie tribute band; Joy Running Crane and the Dirty Birds, a punk-informed country act; The Best Westerns, a shambling country-rock group; and Stellaronda, in which she writes and singing and plays a small luthier banjo.
Theilin will read from a memoir she is writing about six summers she spent — accompanied by only her dog — on a wildnerness fire lookout in the Selway/Bitterroot Wilderness area of Idaho and Montana. The stories are sometimes humorous, often poignant explorations of solitude; an account of the things one does and thinks about when no one is looking.
Following the presentation, the Victory Hall’s Focus Contemporary Art gallery will be open with a new group show featuring photographers from the area.
