Prince Edward County Elementary School third-grader Akyra Sydnor was recognized by the Prince Edward County School Board at its December meeting for her essay “What Christmas Means to Me.” Third-grade students submitted essays for review by the school administration. Akyra’s essay was selected out of 140 submissions. She participated in the Farmville tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 18, where she assisted Farmville Mayor David Whitus with the lighting of the town Christmas tree. Akyra then read her essay aloud for all to hear. Here, Prince Edward Superintendent Dr. Barbara A. Johnson presents Akyra with a recognition certificate from the board.
