The Prince Edward County High School boys and girls indoor track teams participated in the Wally Gilbert Invitational Saturday, producing three individual event winners at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.
The boys team for Prince Edward placed fifth out of 24 teams to score points, while the Lady Eagles placed 15th out of 25 teams to score.
Eagles senior Rajai Walton won the boys high jump with a 6-foot, 4-inch leap, senior Bryan Moses placed first in the boys 55-meter dash by finishing in 6.64 seconds and sophomore Jordan Booker won the girls triple jump with a 34-1 3/4-inch mark.
Walton also placed third in the boys 300-meter dash with a time of 39.32 seconds, and he was sixth in the boys long jump, producing a 19-8 3/4 leap.
Moses was close behind Walton in the 300, claiming fourth with a 39.75-second time, and his 5-10 jump was good for fifth in the high jump.
Both Moses and Walton were part of the boys 4×200-meter relay team that placed third with a time of one minute, 42.58 seconds. The squad also featured senior Brandon Scott and junior Zion Lewis.
Scott finished fourth in the 55 with a 6.71-second time.
Freshman Makayla Morris claimed fourth in the girls high jump with a 4-10 leap.
A 15-6 leap gave sophomore Salma Muhammad sixth in the girls long jump, and junior Haleema Muhammad claimed sixth in the girls shot put with a 31-1 throw.
The girls 4×200 team, featuring Booker, Morris, Salma Muhammad and freshman Mia Seay placed seventh, with a 2:02.70 time.
The Lady Eagles’ all-freshmen 4×800-meter relay team finished 10th with a 13:53.48 time. The girls competing included Alia Muhammad, SaRoya Walton, Destiny Clary and Naomi Jones.
An official’s miscalculation caused the anchor leg to run an extra lap, so the team’s placement could have been higher.
