Chuck Fairchild of New Canton visited in the home of Barry and Linda Miles last week. A nice visit was had by all.

Barry and Linda Miles, Jane Cooke and her grandson, Sam Givens, all of Cumberland, along with Susie Taylor and Patricia Woodfin, of Dillwyn, and Eleanor Newton, of New Canton, enjoyed an afternoon meal in Lynchburg at Cracker Barrel and also attended the 46th Annual Virginia Christmas Tree Spectacular titled “Jingle In The City” at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg. Everyone enjoyed the day.

Victory Baptist Church, 157 Dove Lane, Spout Springs, with Pastor Jeff Worley, will be hosting its first annual Christmas program, “Going back To The Beginning, Leading Us To The End,” on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m.

Elizabeth Stone and her daughter, Linda Seay, of Richmond visited in the home of James and Virginia Boyles, of Cumberland, on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3.

Loaves of Love food pantry is operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2294 Cartersville Road. The pantry is designed for Cumberland county residents, which includes Cartersville. The next food distribution will be held Thursday, Dec. 15 from 2-3 p.m. We will be serving all seniors 60 and older with no exceptions. All seniors have to re-register. From 3-4 p.m., we will serve all others who qualify. Everybody must bring in two forms of ID and proof of income, your photo ID and proof that you reside in Cumberland such as an electric bill, tax bill or voter ID, etc., or you may not be able to pick up your food. Do’s and don’ts of human food for dogs: Cucumbers are good for dogs. They are loaded with vitamin K, C and B1. They also contain potassium, copper magnesium and biotin. Cucumbers have no carbs, fats or oils and it will boost their energy, making it great for overweight dogs.

Pecans are toxic for dogs; they can contain tremorgenic mycotoxine. This can cause stomach upset and also seizures and may even cause neurological symptoms.
