Josephine McFadden Muto

Josephine McFadden Muto, 88, of Petersburg, died Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Dinwiddie Health and Rehab. Born in Cumberland County on May 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John Mayo McFadden and Edna Lann McFadden, and was the second youngest of their twelve children.

Josephine married the love of her life, Frank Joseph Muto, on December 22, 1945. They remained happily married for over 50 years, until his death in 2001.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Pamela Muto Palmore and husband, Bryant, and Michelle Muto Russell; granddaughter, Brooke Palmore and partner, Andrew Campbell; grandson, Austin Tyler Russell; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Lee Campbell and Griffin (“Finn”) Sawyer Campbell. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Beatrice McFadden Walker of Jupiter, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Josephine was a loyal member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was involved with their Parish Outreach Ministry for many years. She also worked as a stylist at House of Burgesses for over 30 years, until her retirement, and deeply treasured her work family and clientele.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 6 at 1 p.m. at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 5 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 103 S. Adams Street.
