Tigers stage late comeback for 66-62 win over W&L

Hampden-Sydney College’s basketball team came back from a 12-point deficit with 5:35 to play Wednesday evening to defeat visiting Washington and Lee University 66-62 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action from Fleet Gymnasium.
Tigers junior center/forward Guilherme Guimaraes posted a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks as he shot 7-for-11 from the floor. Junior forward Nick Chase scored 16 points to go with seven boards. He shot 4-for-6 from the field and made eight of nine free throw attempts. Sophomore point guard Logan Samuels had 10 points in addition to three assists and three steals. Senior guard/forward Jake Duncan chipped in with 13 points and three assists.
In the second half, H-SC outscored the Generals 41-28, shooting 52 percent from the field and going 14-for-18 from the foul line while holding the Generals to a 38.5 percent shooting performance.
Chase, Guimaraes and Duncan combined to score 34 points after the break.
Hampden-Sydney (2-3, 1-0 in ODAC) faces another conference challenge Saturday at 2 p.m. hosting Guilford College.
