NOVEMBER 4 and 5

YARD SALE, 9 a.m.-noon Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Church of God, 1816 East Third St., Farmville. All are invited.

NOVEMBER 5

VOLUNTEERS NEED FOR TRAIL MAINTENANCE, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Those interested will meet park staff at the North Carolina Monument parking lot on Route 24. Volunteers are encouraged to bring proper shoes for use on the trail. There will be moderate trail walking to get to the site, distances not more than a mile. Water will be provided, but please bring any snacks and lunches desired. Tools and safety gloves will be provided. ANNUAL GOSPEL ECHOES BANQUET, 6:30 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, Farmville. The public is invited to join in for a family style dinner and evening of inspiration. Music will be provided by the Gospel Echoes Harvest and Mercy Road Teams. There will also be a ministry report and prison testimonies. A freewill offering will be received for the prison ministry to provide literature and ministry teams to prisons and chaplains through the country free of charge. TURKEY DINNER, 4-5 p.m. at the Abilene Community Center to benefit missions sponsored by the Beulah United Methodist Women. Adults, $10; children 10 and under, $6. TOWN HALL MEETING, 9 a.m. at Cedar Crest at Twin Lakes State Park. Hosted by Lee District Prince Edward County Supervisor Jerry Townsend. A light breakfast will be served. The public is invited, particularly Lee District residents.

GOSPEL CELEBRATION, 3 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 14167 Farmville Road, Meherrin. Special guests will be the Gospel Creators of Central, Brother Anthony Tucker and more.

9TH ANNUAL ‘HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE’ CELEBRATION AND DINNER, 3 p.m. at Meherrin Fire Hall, 64 Moores Ordinary Road, Meherrin. Hosted by the Balm of Gilead Faith-Based Community Missions Inc. All military men and women and their families, past and present, as well as local law enforcement officers are invited. The program will include a service of songs by True Faith Gospel Singers of Farmville and The Gospel Tone Singers of Chase City. The public is invited as well.

CHOIR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 18 Horsepen Road, Farmville. In celebration of the church choirs. The pastor is the Rev. Lee Watkins Jr. All are invited to attend.

64TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY, 3:30 p.m. at The Apostolic Faith Church of All Nations, located on Route 633 in Buckingham for 51 years, and at 1358 Sheppards Road, Farmville, for 13 years. The guest speaker for this special occasion will be Suffragan Bishop Leonia Palmer, pastor of New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church of Halifax. She will be accompanied by her church choir. District Elder Betty Jones, pastor, invites all to attend.

NOVEMBER 7

11TH ANNUAL BAPTIST WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER, 7 p.m. at the 1st Baptist Church of Dillwyn. The theme for this year is a continuation of last year’s program, “Arise, Shine for Jesus,” focusing on communities. The special guest for the evening will be a representative from Madeline House sharing ways the community can work toward helping their efforts. Women — Baptist and other denominations from churches throughout the county — will serve as table prayer leaders with each prayer cluster praying for the needs of women and children on each of the seven continents of the world. The public is urged to attend and participate.

MONTHLY DINNER, at The Curdsville Community Center, 122 School Road off of U.S. 15 at Curdsville. There will be no program because of the election on Tuesday. The dinner will be potluck, so place bring your favorite covered dish. All are welcome to attend.

NOVEMBER 8

ELECTION DAY STEW SALE, 12 p.m. by The Woman’s Club of Cumberland GFWC. Will also include a variety of homemade desserts. The stew will be sold at Payne Memorial Methodist Church. The cost will be $6 a quart and $3 a cup. Those purchasing a cup may eat at the church. Call Juanita Urban at (804) 375-3586 to pre-order or for more information.

ELECTION DAY YARD SALE, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Thomas Chapel UMC, 1313 Cartersville Road, Cumberland. Lunch will be served.

BUCKINGHAM COUNTY TRIAD MEETING, 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Buckingham County Social Services Building. The TRIAD meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

NOVEMBER 10

BLOOD DRIVE, 2 p.m. at Cumberland High School, 60 School Road. Sponsored by the American Red Cross.

NEIL SIMON’S BILOXI BLUES, 8 p.m. in John’s Auditorium, sponsored by Hampden-Sydney Fine Arts. Performances will run Nov. 10-12 and Nov. 17 and 18. The program is free and open to the public.

NOVEMBER 11

SPAGHETTI DINNER, 4:30-6:30 p.m. by the Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary to honor veterans. All veterans will eat free. The menu will consist of spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, salad, desserts, iced tea and coffee. Please donate at the door for your meal and help us honor our veterans and support the fire department. The dinner will be served at the fire department, 2145 Cumberland Road.

NOVEMBER 12

ART SHOW AND SALE, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Pamplin Depot. Sponsored by members of the Pamplin Area Legacy Supporters (PALS). Local artists will display and sell their work. A chili lunch, including homemade chili, cornbread, cookies and drink will be provided by PALS for $5 per meal. In addition to the art show and sale, art students from Appomattox County High School will have art displayed in the community room of the Depot.

VETERANS DAY LUMINARY, 6-8:30 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. The Luminary event is a family-friendly, free admission program. Each hike lasts approximately 45 minutes. HISTORICAL ARTIST, 10-11 a.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. Keith Rocco will talk about how he came to paint two important battles of the American Civil War. His paintings, “Marshall’s Crossroads” and “Victory or Death,” are displayed in the Visitor Center at the park. Rocco will sign prints from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

APPRECIATION QUILTS WORKSHOP 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the American Legion Post 8 stew shed. Quilts will be prepared for shipment to the Air Force’s Heathe Craige Medical Control Center in Afghanistan on Nov. 26. This will be the 10th year quilts have been furnished for Christmas delivery to an Air Force facility. The goal is to complete the many unfinished quilts as soon as possible, as well as determining patterns and fabric for next year’s projects. Items needed. Large, unscented plastic bags to line boxes. 34TH PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at High Rock Baptist Church for its pastor, the Rev. Bernard S. Hill Sr. The Rev. James H. Taylor, pastor, Race Street Baptist Church, Farmville, will be the guest speaker, accompanied by his choir and church family. Everyone is invited to celebrate this special occasion.

DECEMBER 3 AND 4

CHRISTMAS CAMP, Going Green themed holiday camp at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, 1267 4-H Camp Road, Appomattox. The camp is open to children ages 5-13. Activities will include making recycled Christmas decorations, baking Christmas cookies, a winter wonderland hike, Christmas dance, talent show, animal noise contest and more. Early bird price of $65 applies through Nov. 7, then a normal price of $75 applies. Price includes all meals, Saturday lunch-Sunday lunch, lodging and all instruction. DECEMBER 6

LIONS CLUB OF FARMVILLE MEETING, noon-1 p.m. at the Woodland Community Center on Cobb Street. Featured guest speaker will be Dr. Bradley W. Kesser, a professor of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery, of the University of Virginia Hospital. Kesser specializes in congenital ear disease, hearing loss, dizziness and balance disorders, and other related conditions. He has also served on the board for the Virginia Lions Hearing Foundation in Charlottesville. The public is invited.
