Police are investigating two reports of breaking and entering at separate businesses on Route 60 in Cumberland County where cash and other items were stolen and damage and vandalism reported.

The break-ins — reported Oct. 21 at a consignment shop and a tire store — took place during the night hours the day before, according to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Stimpson.

“They broke in through the back door and threw a retaining wall rock and shattered the whole front door out,” Stimpson said of the consignment shop at 1299 Anderson Hwy. across from the Cumberland Farm Bureau Office. “They got approximately $115 in cash and some other miscellaneous items … And they vandalized a lot of stuff inside.”

Stimpson said a vending machine outside the building was also broken into.

At the tire shop, on the 1400 block of Anderson Highway, officers saw damage apparently caused during the break-in.

“That was broken into through a back window. And they went out the front door,” Stimpson said.

A vending machine was also vandalized there.

“There was a cash register on the counter that was broken into, but there was no money in the cash register,” Stimpson said. “So nothing was actually taken from that business.”

He said no suspects have been identified in connection with the incidents.
