Hundreds of trick-or-treaters will imitate their favorite characters from both fantasy and horror genres of books, shows and movies as Halloween events kick off Monday afternoon on both Farmville’s and Dillwyn’s Main streets.
“The Farmville Recreation Department and downtown merchants are excited to host the annual Halloween Costume Parade on Main Street in Farmville,” said Farmville Recreation Director Chris Bolt.
Farmville’s annual Halloween Costume Parade will begin at 4 p.m. on Main Street at the Prince Edward County Court House lawn.
“We are expecting between 400-500 children to participate in this great community event,” Bolt said.
Businesses and others will be handing out candy along Main Street as children, accompanied by their parents and guardians, stroll the sidewalks.
A little later in the evening as bewitching continues, the spooks, princesses and hungry zombies will descend on downtown Dillwyn as the town holds its second annual trick-or-treat event.
The event, from 5-7 p.m., will be held on Main Street from the new Pocket Park to the railroad crossing — the site of last year’s event. The road, like that of Main Street in Farmville, will be closed during the festivities.
“The town, along with co-sponsor Buckingham Chamber of Commerce, are excited about our second annual Halloween event,” said Dillwyn Mayor Linda Venable Paige. “Last year, (more than) 600 children participated and we are anticipating many more this year.”
Town residents are invited to hand out candy along the street or at the park, according to town officials, but should notify the town if participating.
Numerous businesses and individuals in Buckingham and Dillwyn are sponsoring the event, according to the town.
On Saturday, Historic Buckingham Incorporated’s “Boo Thru Drivethru” will be held at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside off of Route 60 from 7-9 p.m. The cost per vehicle to travel through the haunted forest is $10. Proceeds to go Historic Buckingham.
