On Oct. 15, 12 members of the Friends of the Appomattox River (FAR) participated in the 2016 Fall Waterways Cleanup of the Farmville area. The river cleanup was part of the International Coastal Waterways and Clean Virginia Waterways Cleanup effort. The Farmville group covered approximately 2.75 miles of shoreline and concentrated on the Appomattox River, Buffalo Creek, Briery Creek Reservoir, Sandy River Reservoir and Wilck’s Lake. The group collected approximately 715 pounds of trash, consisting of 20 bags of trash and 18 auto and truck tires. The town of Farmville provided trash containers for the project as well as arranging to have it hauled away.

Sam Martin Jr., of the Friends of the Appomattox River (FAR), looks over some of the trash picked up during FARs Oct. 15 cleanup event.
