Fuqua School kicked off its Homecoming week, “Rock the Raiders,” on Monday. The week of celebration ignited school spirit with daily theme activities, Fuqua Gives Back, bon fire pep rally, a campus-wide picnic and a powder-puff football game. The Fuqua School Student Cooperative Association, Alumni Association, sophomore class, band, varsity and middle school cheerleaders, and countless faculty, staff and students have worked hard to make this year’s event memorable. 

In keeping with tradition, upper school students participated in Fuqua Gives Back, a day of community service helping with activities in and around the Farmville area. Fuqua School encourages students to take part in community service projects throughout the year to foster responsible citizenship. Upper school students are required to complete 40 hours of community service as a requirement for graduation.

Middle School students shined a little love to their side of campus as part of their annual Homecoming service project. They collaborated with staff to spruce up their grounds by sanding and painting their seating areas and adding artwork.

Lower school students participated in community service activities on campus by making cards and door wreaths for local nursing homes, butterflies for cancer patients, Friendship Soup for the local FACES and writing letters to soldiers.   

Continuing a long-standing tradition, pre-game festivities Friday will include the famous Ruritan Stew at 5 p.m. at the Ruritan Shelter. Pre-game festivities will also include the presentation of the Homecoming Court and the crowning of the 2016 Homecoming Queen at 6:30 p.m. The 2016 Homecoming Court is Freshman class princess Hannah Ostrander, Sophomore class princess Hannah-Gray Schmidt, Junior class princess Alexa Marzloff, Senior class princesses Katie Haney and Nitalia Summa. 2015 Queen Taylor Frink will crown one of the senior princesses 2016 Homecoming Queen.

Kick-off between the Fuqua Falcons and the North Cross Raiders is at 7 p.m. Half-time festivities will include performances by the Fuqua School Band and cheerleaders.

Homecoming week concludes Saturday evening with the upper school dance in the Gee Price Activity Center.
