Park needs help with trail

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is seeking volunteers to assist in trail maintenance on the park’s History/Nature Trail on Saturday, Nov. 5. The project involves building a 100-foot long, 4-foot wide terraced walkway along a portion of the North Carolina Monument/Sears Lane Loop near Plain Run. The terraced walkway will replace a section of trail that seasonally floods.

Volunteers will assist in shoveling and filling in material behind the boards that make up the terrace. Those interested will meet park staff at the North Carolina Monument parking lot on Route 24 at 9 a.m. The project will conclude at approximately 1 p.m.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring proper shoes for use on the trail. There will be moderate trail walking to get to the site, distances not more than a mile. Water will be provided, but please bring any snacks, and lunches desired. Tools and safety gloves will be provided.
