Woman’s and Garden clubs to visit Museum of Fine Arts

The Woman’s Club of Buckingham County GFWC and the Buckingham /Dillwyn Garden Club will make a joint trip together on Thursday, Oct. 20, to the VA Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. The clubs will meet at the Food Lion parking lot in Dillwyn at 9 a.m. to car pool to the event. Each club will convene for its respective board meeting and then have a joint lunch together. After lunch they will visit the new “Fine Arts and Flowers” exhibit. The show will feature many floral designs by various garden clubs in Virginia.

The Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary, 347 Arvon Road, is holding its Arvonia Community Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be food, fun for kids, an art and craft show, yard sale, silent auction, live music and 50/50 drawing. Please keep in mind the various deadlines that apply to the upcoming elections. The deadline to register to vote, or to update your registration, is Monday. If you have any questions, you may check your registration status online at the Citizen Portal at https//vote.elections.virginia.gov, at vote.virginia.gov or call your local elections office at 434-969-4304. Nov. 1 is the deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail and Nov. 5 is the deadline to request an absentee ballot in person.
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Most Virginians vote in person at their designated polling place. Your polling place is determined by your home address. For your vote to count, you need to be at the correct polling place. You can look up your polling place if you do not already know it at https//vote.elections.virginia.gov. Polls in Virginia are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. It is best to arrive early, but as long as you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to vote.
During October the Masonic Lodges across Virginia are holding open houses. Check with your local lodge for more information.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce would like to recognize and honor those folks in the county who go above and beyond the norm in service to others.
