LU faculty recital Oct. 20

A faculty composition recital featuring music byDr. Gordon Ring will be presented Thursday, Oct.20, at 7:30 p.m. in Molnar Recital Hall in Longwood University’s Wygal Hall.The program, which is free and open to the public, will include three world premiere performances and a Longwood premiere performance. Performers will be Longwood faculty,staff, alumni and students.
Prelude music will begin at 7:05 p.m.
Ring, professor of music,has taught at Longwoodand conducted the Longwood Wind Symphonysince 1989. In 2015-16 he
was named the university’s first Simpson Distinguished Professor.Several of Ring’s works for various media have been prizewinners in national and international composition contests. His chamber opera, Highway 77, and his Concerto #2 forPiano, Winds and Percussion have both recently been named semifinalists in the Opera and BandComposition divisions of The American Prize national nonprofit competitions in the performing arts.
Both works were performed recently at Longwood.
