The Longwood University Chamber Music Series will present a concert by a group of young artists from the Virginia Opera on Monday.

The concert is free and open to the public, and will take place in the Molnar Recital Hall of Wygal Music Building at 7:30 p.m.; doors will open at 7:10 p.m. The Virginia Opera Young Artists include six outstanding young professionals from the world of opera, including soprano Molly Phelan. The artists will bring a program of arias, songs and duets from the traditions of opera and musical theatre to the Longwood stage.

Organized in 1974 in Norfolk, the Virginia Opera has since expanded its operations beyond the Tidewater region to serve regularly in Richmond and Fairfax. It currently presents 28 main stage performances each year, with audiences totaling more than 50,000. Part of the organization’s mission is to present some of the nation’s best young talent in its young artist program each year.

The singers appearing at Longwood University include four members of the Herndon Foundation Emerging Artist program: Phelan; Tatiana Ogan, mezzo soprano; Bille Bruley, tenor; and Kyle Oliver, baritone.

They will be joined by tenor Matthew Vickers and all will be accompanied by Adam Turner, piano. The program will feature music by Mozart, Bizet and Rossini, with some selections coming from the Virginia Opera’s current main stage production of The Barber of Seville.
