Thirteen-year-old Amber Gillen, of Pamplin, displays the eight-point buck she shot in Pamplin at first light on the opening day of youth deer season, Sept. 24, with her father’s .270-caliber rifle. The deer was about 150 yards from her and dropped when she hit it. Amber has killed a few other deer, but this is her best to date.
