South Main Street from Putney Street to Griffin Boulevard will be closed from 8-11 p.m. Tuesday during the U.S. Vice Presidential Debate at Longwood University.

“This area of South Main Street is reduced to one lane of traffic traveling in each direction leading up to this evening’s closure,” the town said in the release. “Throughout the day, north and southbound tractor-trailers and other large vehicle traffic will be detoured from portions of South Main Street. Times are approximate.”

Other sections of streets adjacent to the Longwood University campus may be closed temporarily, the town said, but detours will be marked and traffic patterns returned to normal as soon as possible.
