Many thanks to all those folks who made the first wine festival, “Vino in the Village,” at Buckingham’s Historic Village, 84 Lee Wayside Road, such a success.
The next event at the Village is the Fall Farm Fest, taking place Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. This is sponsored by the Buckingham County Farm Bureau and Historic Buckingham and features all things farm: animals, exhibits, antique tractors and live music by the Farm Use band. Food and refreshments will be available. There is no admission charge for this event that promises to be fun for the entire family.
The Dillwyn Fire Department’s Fall Chicken Barbecue will be Sunday, beginning at noon at the Dillwyn Fire House. Tickets are available from Moss Motor Company and Foster Tire Company. This is a delicious way to support a great bunch of people who are crucial to our community.
Don’t forget the Indian Relic Show, Saturday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Historic Village. There will be exhibits of Indian relics, knapping demonstrations, a blacksmith, crafts and music by The Ridge Runners. Lunch will be available. This is a rain or shine event. In the case of rain, the show will be held at the VFW Hall. There is no admission charge. Call Spencer Adams for more information at (434) 969-4032.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is offering a special program on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 6:30-9 p.m. at the Dillwyn Fire Department. The program is designed to help prepare for the worst-case scenario of being in a location where there is an active shooter. News headlines in recent years have shown us this can happen anywhere — no community or town is immune. If you own a business, work in a public business or frequent places where large groups of people congregate, this program may help you understand what you can do. The chamber offers this program free of charge. An advance head count would be appreciated, so if you plan on attending, please call (434) 983-2372 by 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10.
Maysville Baptist Church of Buckingham will have its Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 15 beginning at 5 p.m. It will be hosted by Herb and Nancy Maxey at 93 Village Lane on Route 60 in Buckingham Court House. There will be refreshments, snacks, games, hayrides, dinner, bonfire and a free concert by Denise Pass with Seeing Deep. For more information visit www.MaysvilleBaptist.com or call (434) 969-4657.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is looking for homeowners who take joy in decorating for Christmas and who like to share their decorated homes with others. Four or five houses are still needed in order to have the annual Christmas House Tour fundraiser Sunday, Dec. 11. Call (434) 983-2372 with your suggestions.
