One hundred seventy-eight years of history

This plaque tells the story of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of New Canton, which recently celebrated its 178th anniversary during its homecoming on Aug. 3. The congregation dedicated the plaque — recently installed at the church’s front entrance — during the homecoming activities. According to the plaque and other history presented during homecoming, the church was established in 1838 by meeting at homes and a brush arbor for its first 18 years. The church itself was first built in 1856. We congratulate the church on its long-standing place in the community.
