Labor Day on Main Street

Labor Day being a holiday didn’t mean folks just stayed home and lounged around. Plenty of people made their way through Farmville on Monday. This was especially so downtown on Main Street.
While not every shop and restaurant was open, enough were to give visitors and residents alike places to visit as they enjoyed a holiday filled with somewhat cooler temperatures coupled with plenty of sunshine.
“It’s a nice cool day,” Edward Sims said, as he took his daughter, Leanne, and Ukranian exchange student Valeriya Petrechkiv around town. “It’s a nice day to show her the sights.”
Bicyclists took advantage of the High Bridge Trail as well as carefully walking their bikes in front of shops. Families and couples — walking hand-in-hand — stopped in those shops to at least take a look, many coming back out with bags in their hands. Others stopped at information kiosks to learn more about Farmville and the surrounding area.
While no numbers were immediately available at press time, it seemed Labor Day was a good day for Main Street in downtown Farmville.
