A Prospect man faces a charge of “abduct by force/kidnapping” for allegedly taking his mother to New York City in violation of a Department of Social Services (DSS) custody order. Arrest records list the man as George Bernard Wilson, 59.
Prince Edward County Sheriff W.W. Reed said deputies received a call Aug. 5 to assist Prince Edward DSS in locating an elderly female of whom they had been granted custody.
“DSS had been granted custody of the (mother), who was living with Wilson,” Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office Inv. Sarah Coen said.
Deputies responded and were unable to locate Wilson’s mother, but made contact with Wilson, who fled the scene in a vehicle, according to Reed. He said based on their on investigation, deputies charged Wilson with abduction on Aug. 8.
“A short time later, both Wilson and (his mother) were located by the New York Police Department in The Bronx, N.Y.,” Reed said in a written statement. “Wilson was taken into custody without incident. (His mother) was released into the custody of Prince Edward Social Services.”
Coen and Reed said Wilson was extradited back to Prince Edward County and a trial date has been set for Oct. 19. Reed said Coen is still investigating the case, and asked anyone with information about the situation call the sheriff’s office at (434) 392-8101.
