Committee offers pair of events

The Pamplin Old Dance & Community Social Committee, town of Pamplin and PALS are offering two special community events during September.
First, The Pamplin Old Time Dance & Community Social will be held Saturday, 6-8 p.m. at the Pamplin Depot. Admission is free, and light drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
There will be no meal this month.
Next, Saturday, Sept. 17, is Celebrate Pamplin Day. The day will kick off at 9 a.m. with the second annual Ralph M. Hamlett Memorial 5K Fun Run and Walk.
An awards ceremony with T-shirts, medals for participants and trophies for the top three male and female runners, plus special age group prizes, will take place at the Historic Pamplin Train Depot on Main Street.
There will be a free breakfast at the depot at 10 a.m. offered by PALS for race participants. Others will be able to purchase breakfast.
Vendors on Main Street will offer their wares while church groups provide kids activities.
The Farm Use Old Time String Band will have an old-fashioned cake walk around noon in the Freight Room with lots of “goodies” to win, with dancing and “general hilarity” to follow.
The goals of the Pamplin Old Dance & Community Social Committee and PALS is to provide opportunities in the visual and performing arts, social interaction, fundraising and educational programs.
