Don’t forget about the Buckingham County Friends of the Library book and bake sale Friday, Sept. 9, 4-8 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at the VFW Hall, 14405 W. James Anderson Hwy. (Route 60).

Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, Route 15, Dillwyn, begins its homecoming and revival with a Sunday worship service. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. followed by the worship service by the Rev. Rebecca Tavolli-Cook at 11:15 a.m. Lunch follows with special worship music afterwards. The revival week begins Monday at 7 p.m. and ends Friday, Sept. 9. Each evening, there will be a variety of worship music followed by the service at 7:30 p.m. The guest speaker for the week is the Rev. Billy Swan. All are welcome.

The Virginia Extension Office of Buckingham has announced a number of 4-H programs for Fall 2016.

There is the 4-H Mad Science Lab afterschool youth program for grades 6-8 taking place on Fridays, Sept. 2, 9 and 16 after school until 5 p.m. each day. This year’s challenge, Drone Discovery, explores the engineering design and flight principles of drones. While there is no cost, pre-registration is required to ensure there are enough supplies.

On Friday, Sept. 23, 3:45-8:30 p.m., there is a 4-H baking day to prepare baked goods for the Five County Fair and have plenty to take home and enjoy with the family. This event is for ages 8 and up and will be held at the BARN facility (Route 60). A light dinner will be provided. The cost is $20. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Volunteers are needed to help.

On Sunday, Sept. 25 there will be a flower arranging workshop for youth ages 8 and up from 2-4 p.m. at the Buckingham Agriculture Center. Join experts from the Buckingham-Dillwyn Garden Club as they guide youth in the art of flower arranging. You can make as many arrangements as you can to enter in the Five County Fair. Young people ages 5-7 are welcome to attend with an adult who can give assistance. The cost is $5.

Historic Buckingham will hold its fall stew and membership meeting on Thursday, September 15 at the Historic Village at 5:30 p.m.

On Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Buckingham Extension Office, there will be a kickoff meeting for a Buckingham/Cumberland Water Testing Clinic. The goal of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with private water supplies, such as wells, springs and cisterns. Drinking water clinics are being held in counties across the state to give people with private water systems access to affordable water testing, help interpreting their water test results and information about possible treatment options. The cost of one sampling kit is $52. Samples will be dropped off on Oct 26 from 7-9 a.m. at the Buckingham Extension Office. An interpretation meeting will follow on Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m at the Buckingham Extension Office.
