Prospect Community Cemetery to hold meeting

A thought: nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.
There will be a meeting of family members of loved ones buried in the Prospect Community Cemetery on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department. The purpose is to discuss funds needed for maintenance and setting up a board. This is a most important meeting. The cemetery is located next to Prospect United Methodist Church in Prospect.
The Prospect Historical Society will have a drawing to give away an 8×12 shed by Buggy Top Sheds in Cumberland, $50 gas card or $25 cash. For a chance to win, get in touch with a Prospect Historical Society member or go by Merk’s Place, Poulston’s or Amish Originals. The drawing will take place the first Tuesday in September. Don’t miss out.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows was struck by lightning during the thunderstorm that hit the area Monday night. A number of household items were lost, but luckily there was no fire or injury to them. Thanks to all who called or came by to check on them.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton visited with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows in Farmville on Friday afternoon.
Betty Shumaker and Peggy Kelsey and other family members attended the Washington Nationals game last Saturday. On their return trip, they toured the National Museum of the Marine Corps. It shows 240 years of Marine Corps history. It is free admission and closed one day a year, Christmas Day.
Last Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith treated their granddaughter, Christina, to dinner at the Cruz-In to celebrate her 16th birthday, which was Aug. 18.
On Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith traveled to Chesterfield for several medical appointments, went shopping and then enjoyed lunch before returning home.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton traveled to Roanoke on Saturday, Aug. 20, where they attended the Presbytery of Peaks meeting. The pastor of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church of Prospect was received into the Presbytery.
Mrs. Flora Bolt, Mrs. Judy Bolt and Jennifer Page Bolt attended the Farmville/Prince Edward Historical Society meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 16. Following the meeting, the Bolts met Chris Bolt at Wendy’s for dinner. The society meeting was a “Going Away” party for Bob Flippin. Bob will be traveling to Australia for a visit.
Mrs. Judy Bolt and son, Chris, entertained most of the Bolt family following church on Sunday, Aug. 21. This was a special lunch as they were celebrating Jennifer Page Bolt’s birthday a few days early as her birthday is Aug. 26. Chris grilled chicken for the celebration. Others attending were: Mrs. Flora Bolt, grandmother; Douglas and Betty Jean Bolt, Stacy Bolt, Andrew Goss, Steve Bolt and daughter, Ashley; granddaughters Haley and Payden Murdock, and friend Grace; Kyle and Jeni Bolt and sons, Joshua and Jacob; Mrs. Peggy Kelsey, Garland Woodson, Alexa Moser of Charlottesville; and Wallace Woodson of Henrico. The birthday girl, Jennifer Page, received many nice gifts. They ended the celebration with cake and ice cream.
Prospect United Methodist Church will host a free CPR class on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2-4 p.m. The Prospect Charge and the community are invited. Nurses from Centra Lynchburg General Hospital will conduct the class. This is not a CPR Certification, but you will get a participation card. The class is to help one to be better prepared in an emergency. Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Jean P. Derrenbacker, Gail George, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.
Neighbors and friends are extending their sincere sympathy to Paul and Ann Greene on the death of their son.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday school is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Catilian Hoy will be at Davis Memorial on Sunday.
Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The church is at 302 Industrial Park Road, in the former Stackpole-Carbone building.
Grace Chapel located on Simpson Road at Tuggle invites you to worship with them each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for youth and adult Bible study. The pastor is Jeff Spenser and worship leader is Roger Mahan.
