Habitat benefit car wash is Saturday

The Buckingham Habitat for Humanity will hold a car wash to benefit its building projects on Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Advance Auto on Route 15 in Dillwyn. There will also be a bake and craft sale. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/BuckinghamBuild.
The Buckingham County Ruritan Club and the Masons of Buckingham are holding the annual Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, July 20, from noon to 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Dillwyn, 16980 Oak St., Dillwyn.

The CVCHC-Beulah M. Wiley Fitness Center, 25892 N .James Madison Highway in New Canton, is offering new body sculpt classes by Monica. The Virginia Cooperative Extension Office offers many resources for farmers, ranchers and residents. The Southern Piedmont Agriculture Research and Extension Center (AREC) in Blackstone, is holding the 2016 Annual Forage Field Day on Thursday, July 28.
Registration for a pre-dinner tour will begin at 2 p.m.
The pre-dinner summer annual and forage sorghum variety tour begins at 2:30 p.m. and will finish with dinner and guest speakers at 5 p.m. Among topics included are the hay export project and the impact of shade on cool-season forage mixtures. Registration for a post-dinner tour will begin at 5 p.m. and the silvopasture tour will begin at 6 p.m.

The Enrollment Period for 2016 USDA Safety Net Coverage Ends Aug. 1. Producers who chose coverage from the safety net programs established by the 2014 Farm Bill, known as the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) or the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs, can visit FSA county offices through Aug. 1 to sign contracts to enroll in coverage for 2016.
Although the choice between ARC and PLC is completed and remains in effect through 2018, producers must still enroll their farm by signing a contract each year to receive coverage. Producers are encouraged to contact their local FSA office to schedule an appointment to enroll. For more details regarding these programs, visit www.fsa.usda.gov/.
