The Farmville High School classes of 1947, 1948 and 1949 held their class reunions on Tuesday June 28 at Merk’s Place with lunch. Mrs. Alice Bartlett gave some interesting facts: They have lived under 15 presidents and they came before microwaves, cell phones, etc.

The class of 1947 had four members present: Kenneth Brisentine, Dorothy Brisentine Campbell, Nolan Skinner and Woodrow Townsend; then there were seven from the class of 1948: Alice Bartlett, Martha Alice Wilson Thompson, Flora Woodson Bolt, Sidney Newman, Betty Frank, Joyce Smith Pittman and Zella Scruggs Fencl; and from the class of 1949 came: Edna Clabo Wood and Earl Mottley. Kenneth Brisentine and Betty received the prize for the couple who had been married the longest. The flowers were donated by Rochette’s Florist.

Mrs. Betty Noblin spent July 2-4 with her son, Dave, and his family in Chesapeake. While there, she joined in the birthday celebration of her granddaughter Allie’s eighth birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows hosted a luncheon on June 30 for Lois Gager and Flora Bolt.

On June 29, June Garland Woodson hosted a birthday dinner at Merk’s Place for his daughter, Debbie Woodson. Her birthday was July 8.

Debbie was here from Sanford, N.C. visiting her father for the week. Nine family members came together to help Debbie celebrate.

Mrs. Frances Anderson and Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the July 4 dinner at the Curdsville Community Center. Thanks to Mr. Ron Dowdy for furnishing the delicious chicken. It was good to fellowship with good friends.

Mrs. Judy Bolt and son, Chris, entertained Mrs. Flora Bolt and Miss Jennifer Bolt with lunch on Sunday following church. Later, Flora visited the shut-ins at the Woodlands: Ann, Shirley, C.J. and Frances.

Jo Smith, along with Nancy Dickerson, Joyce and Fred Floyd, Margaret and Richard Stockton and Sean Stockton, met at the Golden Palace on Wednesday week for lunch and made plans for their upcoming 60th class reunion.

On Saturday, Mrs. Pat Smith attended the Calvary Chapel Farmville’s Ladies Tea held at the 1752 Plantation.

Mrs. Pat Smith met her college roommate, Mrs. Carolyn Boyd, for lunch in Appomattox on Monday.

Mrs. Brenda Walton, of Powhatan, and Mrs. Pat Smith met for breakfast on Thursday at the Cumberland Restaurant.

From Sunday through Thursday, Mr. Jeff Smith and his granddaughter, Brianna, attended Augusta Heritage held at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va.

On Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith took their granddaughter, Christina, to James Madison University to participate in a five-day high school band camp. The Smith’s spent the night in Harrisonburg. For breakfast on Wednesday morning, they met with friends, Mrs. Helen Burkholder and Mr. and Mrs. Pres Nowlin, all formerly of Powhatan, who had relocated to The Mennonite Retirement Home in Harrisonburg.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Jean P. Derrenbacker, Gail George, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

The Rev. Buddy Woodson will be at Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church on Sunday. They welcome Terri Kidd as guest pianist. The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship with them each Sunday.

Calvary Chapel- Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The church is located at 302 Industrial Park Road, in the former Stackpole- Carbone building.
