Longwood women’s lacrosse seniors Shiloh McKenzie, Sarah Butler and Katie McHugh were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State first team, as announced Thursday by the organization.
Longwood’s three first-team selections topped all universities in the commonwealth and are the most in the program’s Division I era. Upon completing their four-year careers, Butler earned VaSID first-team honors for the third straight year while McHugh and McKenzie received their inaugural first-team recognition.
McKenzie, the 2016 Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Year, caused a career-best 30 turnovers to lead the squad for the second straight year and rank in the top 10 in the Big South.
Butler emerged as one of the nation’s biggest offensive threats. She finished in the NCAA’s top 10 in points (87) and assists (38).
McHugh also became one of the top attacking players in the country. She set a single-season program record with 93 points, which ranked fourth in the nation and led the Big South.
The all-state honors cap off a year of accolades for the trio, as Butler and McKenzie were selected to the All-Big South first team and McHugh was named All-Big South second team.
