Cumberland County High School’s girls and boys track teams combined to produce 11 all-state finishes at the Virginia High School League Group 1A State Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend at Radford University.

Prince Edward County High School’s boys and girls track teams produced five all-state finishes at the VHSL Group 2A State Championships, held at Radford at the same time as the Group 1A state meet.

Athletes and relay teams placing in the top eight of an event achieved all-state status.

For the Dukes, Timothy Jackson placed third in the boys discus throw with a 146-09 throw, Ebony Jones claimed third in the girls 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.11 seconds and Ziahir Berry took third in the boys 400-meter dash, finishing in 52.04 seconds.

Rajai Walton of the Eagles placed third in the boys high jump with a 6-04 leap, and Prince Edward’s boys 4×100-meter relay team also took third, finishing in 44.27 seconds. Walton, Dennis Dubose, Quantavis Nash and Brandon Scott were listed as making up the relay team.

Cumberland’s Jared Halvorsen finished fourth in the boys 3200-meter run, setting a school record with his time of 10 minutes, 45.07 seconds.

The Dukes generated five fifth-place finishes, including Jones in the girls long jump (16-07 1/4) and the girls triple jump (33-08) and Jackson in the boys shot put (45-06).

Jones was also part of the girls 4×800-meter relay team that placed fifth, finishing in 11:00.48. The relay team also included Tayanna Bradley, Marya Elasha and Munirah Fulani.

Cumberland’s boys 4×800-meter relay team also placed fifth, finishing with a school record time of 8:50.97. The team featured Halvorsen, Matthew Bapties, Chase Grubbs and Devin Reed.

Scott of Prince Edward took fifth place in the boys 100-meter dash by finishing in 11.34 seconds.

The Lady Eagles 4×100-meter relay team claimed sixth with a time of 51.74 seconds. The team included Jordan Booker, Quiana Wylie, Salma Muhammad and Tanasia Miller.

Tonishea Ford of the Lady Dukes placed sixth in the girls discus throw, producing a 98-01 mark.

Bapties finished eighth in the boys 1600-meter run with a 4:51.87 time for the Dukes, while Nash finished eighth in the boys long jump with a 20-04 1/4 leap for the Eagles.

Cumberland’s boys team scored 26 points and finished tied for eighth out of 35 teams in the 1A state meet, while Auburn won with 128 points. The Lady Dukes scored 21 points and placed 15th out of 32 teams, and Auburn won with 92 points.

In the 2A state meet, Prince Edward’s boys team had 17 points and finished 16th out of 39 teams. The Lady Eagles had three points and tied for 26th out of 33 teams. Maggie Walker won the girls and boys team titles with 134 and 84 points, respectively.

Buckingham County High School had finishers in two events during the 2A state meet. Jamiyah Gough placed 12th in the girls long jump, and she was also part of the girls 4×800 relay team that placed 14th. Also included on the team were Tyronae Brown, Tamiyah Gough and Alaysia Toney.
