Roane to speak at service

The United Daughters of the Confederacy Farmville 45 and the Sons of the Confederacy, High Bridge Camp 1581, will sponsor the annual Memorial Day service at the Confederate Cemetery on Monday at 11 a.m. The speaker will be Teresa Roane, archivist of the Virginia United Daughters of the Confederacy. Please bring a folding chair. The Confederate Cemetery is located north of the Cumberland bridge from Farmville on Route 45.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton Sr. have returned home following a few days in Williamsburg. They were attending the Eastern Star state convention. Also attending for the three days was Mrs. Frances C. Moore serving as Grand Ruth; joining them for Wednesday was Mrs. Carolyn T. Dove. These were representing the Robert Morris chapter in Farmville.
Mrs. Pat Smith was hostess for the May gathering of the Prospect Happy Hats, Red Hats. Those joining Pat were: Hilda Allen, Sue Ellen Case, Jean Covington, Betty Meadows, Rita Rountree, Margaret Stockton, Betty Sumner, Jeannette Tarlton, Dolly Worthy and spouses/friends: Larry Latham, Don Meadows, Richard Stockton, Virgil “Ben” Benfield, Jeff Smith, Shirley Moore and George Moore.
They met at the Prospect Fire Department for the chicken supper the Prospect Volunteer Fire Auxiliary sponsored.
Peggy Kelsey has returned home after a family vacation in Gatlinburg, Tn.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Chip Irvin and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hostler were dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith on Friday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith attended the Randolph-Henry High School graduation ceremony on Saturday morning.
Their granddaughter, Brianna was one of the graduates. That afternoon Brianna’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith, hosted a graduation party at their home for family and friends to honor Brianna.
Mr. Jeff Smith traveled to the Sandy Cove Conference Center in Maryland to attend a three day Pastors/Leaders Conference with men from Calvary Chapel Farmville.
Mrs. Pat Smith visited with Mrs. Nancy Currie at her home on Tuesday.
Mrs. Betty Noblin attended the Noblin family reunion held on May 22 at the Osborne Park Boat Landing in Henrico.
Mrs. Flora Bolt along with Jennifer Bolt and Alexa Moser enjoyed lunch with Mrs. Judy Bolt and her son, Chris on May 22.
Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Jean P. Derrenbacker, Richard “Richie” LeSueur, Gail George, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with Worship at 11a.m. The Rev. Caitilin Hoy will be with them this month.
Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The church is located at 302 Industrial Park Road, in the former Stackpole-Carbone building.
