Farmville’s Downtown Film Series has scheduled season 19 of the award-winning Stars Under The Stars program.

Started in 1997 as a Leadership Farmville project, the series has brought over 50 timeless motion pictures back to the big screen for Farmville and surrounding communities.

Covering classic film eras and genres, the movies are presented in the grassy outdoor venue at Crute Stage and have included such classics as “Gone With the Wind,” “West Side Story,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Mary Poppins” and many more.

Organizers kick-off their 19th season on June 10 with Judy Garland in “Meet Me in St. Louis” (1944, Not Rated).

On July 8, Alan Ladd stars as a gunfighter in the Best Picture-winning Western “Shane” (1953, Not Rated). The season will finish on Aug. 12 with Mr. Miyagi teaching Daniel-san the ways of the martial arts in 1984’s “The Karate Kid” (Rated PG), starring Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio.

Please join the volunteers for this Farmville tradition nearly 20 years in the making. Shows are presented at dusk at Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main and Fourth streets in Downtown Farmville. Come early for pre-show trivia and drawings. Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the court house. Admission is always free, and popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase. No pets are allowed. In the event of rain, films are shown the following evening at dusk. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and spend an evening in downtown Farmville under the stars.
