Four teams from Buckingham 4-H and Prince Edward 4-H recently participated in the Central District Food Challenge competition at W.E. Skelton 4-H Center at Smith Mountain Lake.
Similar to many of the cooking challenge programs popular on television, 4-H Food Challenge participants work in teams and are given a set of ingredients but no recipe. Teams have 40 minutes to prepare a dish using those ingredients and to put together a five-minute presentation that includes the recipe developed, nutrition information, food safety information, and a cost analysis. Judges score presentation of the dish, skills involved in making it, teamwork, and oral presentation.
Nine teams participated in the district level event with senior teams qualifying to compete at State 4-H Congress.
