Over $419K awarded to colleges to help school divisions

RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has announced $419,382 in grants for Longwood University, the Virginia Mathematics and Science Coalition and the College of William and Mary.
According to a department release, over $1.4 million second-year grants were awarded to mathematics projects, including “the Southern Virginia Elementary Mathematics Coalition to Enhance Student Achievement through Teacher Professional Development.”
This grant will benefit 134 teachers in numerous school divisions across the state, including Prince Edward County.
“The grants are from the federal Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) program, which supports efforts by colleges and universities to provide high-quality, professional development programs for teachers with the goal of improving instruction and closing achievement gaps in mathematics and science,” stated the release.
