William Elliott ‘Bill’ Atkinson Sr.

William Elliott “Bill” Atkinson Sr., 89, of Farmville, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016. He was a retired sanitarian worker in Buckingham, and served in Cumberland, Appomattox and Prince Edward counties. He is a native of Prince Edward, raised on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College graduated from Worsham High School class of 1944, attended Hampden-Sydney College and graduated from V.P.I. He raised a few cattle in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife, Nevada Atkinson of Lunenburg County; his daughter, Sallie A. Mowbray (Freddie); sons, Elliott Atkinson (Marjorie), Allen “Mule” Atkinson and friend, Letha all of Buckingham County; and a granddaughter, Maggie Campbell of Roanoke. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Nora Atkinson of Buckingham and a sister, Margaret Esther Jerome of Bridgewater. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Tulane Atkinson, mother, Esther Thomas Atkinson and a brother, P. Tulane Atkinson Jr. He could not have made it through the past few years with out his dear friends, like family, Joe and Frances Huddleston.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, March 29 in College Church, Hampden-Sydney.
