I am writing this letter in support of the new Buckingham County Library.

I am a regular patron of the library in Dillwyn. I do not have Internet at home due to financial reasons; therefore, I rely on the library for this benefit. I also enjoy the ability to find reading materials, DVD rental or historical information, just to name a few things. The library is quite small and in constant need of repair. It only has four long-term, 60-minute Internet stations as well as two 20-minute Internet stations. I have often been there and had to wait or have witnessed other patrons waiting for a terminal to be available.

It is a necessity in this day and age to have the Internet accessible and available for our people.

Job applications are almost 100 percent online, which makes it extremely difficult for anyone to search for employment and complete applications effectively who does not have Internet access.

The library offers assistance to those searching for work, enabling them to succeed. There is never enough of that.

Just think what a new, larger library would be able to do for the county.

The free community meeting area is available to all. Unfortunately, only one group at a time can utilize this wonderful gift.

I have heard the giggles of children being shushed by parents due to the fact that they cannot enjoy story time or other events for children because there is no room for them to enjoy properly, without disturbing others.

Don’t restrict our growth by not building the library we need and deserve.
