A “Spring Owl Prowl” program will be held at High Bridge Trail State Park on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and again on Friday, April 22, and Saturday, May 21. Meet a park interpreter on High Bridge over the Appomattox River to listen for various owl species answering recorded calls.
In previous programs participants have heard great horned owls, barred owl, and screech owls in the vicinity of High Bridge. Plan to arrive at the River Road Parking area by 7 p.m. to allow for walking time to the bridge, or gain closer access by using the Camp Paradise Road entrance; dress for the weather and bring water.
This program is free, but a parking fee of $4 per vehicle will apply for parking. Visitors who bicycle from Farmville or Rice are required to have an operating headlight and rear reflector. The trail should be clear of visitors by 10:45 p.m.
