Farmville Mayor David E. Whitus was made an honorary member of the Farmville Lions Club on March 1.
“This honor was bestowed on the mayor for his dedication and outstanding service to the Farmville community and surrounding areas,” Lion Tom McBride said. “The Lions recognized his unswerving commitment and support of all Farmville organizations, especially the Farmville Lions Club for helping to make its 2015 fundraisers successful.”
“Civic groups are the core of any community,” Whitus said. “I’m honored to be an honorary member of the Lions.”
Farmville Lions Club fundraisers include broom sales, funnel cake and raffle tickets sales, White Cane Days and annual Lions Golf Tournament. These fundraisers allow the Lions to help the needy in Prince Edward and Cumberland counties obtain eyeglasses and hearing aids. Lions also provide diabetes awareness education.
Lions Clubs include men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs, achieving the Motto: “We Serve.”
