The Third Thursday Book Club held its February meeting at the home of Ruth Boyer. The speaker was historian, author and High Bridge Trail Educational Specialist Robert “Bob” Flippen. He gave an intriguing presentation on the mystery of John Stanley James, the Vagabond, who was a resident of Farmville in 1874. James left Farmville mysteriously and ended up in Australia. Bob contributed to the recently published expanded edition of John Stanley James’ “Vagabond Papers.” Pictured are Book Club President Elizabeth McCutchen, right, Flippen and Boyer.
