American Red Cross disaster responders from across the state continue to provide relief and comfort to Virginians as they recover from last Wednesday’s tornadoes and windstorms. Shelters remain open at Appomattox County Community Center located at 220 Community Lane in Appomattox and Pamplin Fire and EMS located at 2394 Pamplin Road in Pamplin.

Trained Red Cross health and mental health workers are providing services to people impacted, including emotional support. Five response vehicles are driving through storm-damaged neighborhoods, delivering food and water.

“Red Cross workers continue to work around the clock to support those impacted by the tornadoes and windstorms,” CEO of the American Red Cross Virginia Region Reggie Gordon said.  “Red Cross workers are across the state and we’ll be here in the days and weeks to come to help people begin to recover.”

Since Feb. 24, Red Cross workers have served 1,284 meals and snacks, distributed relief supplies including personal hygiene items, provided  overnight stays in shelters and made mental health or health-related contacts.
