Wilburn Ray Whitus, 75

BURKEVILLE, May 19 — Wilburn Ray Whitus, 75, of Burkeville, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015. He was born in Wood County Texas on February 1, 1940 to the late Everett and Beatrice Nichols Whitus. He was honored to serve his country in the navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He often stated he had traveled the world by water but was never interested in going back to the beach. He was a simple man who enjoyed just being an “old cowboy” working on the farm with his horses and cows, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Whitus is survived by his children, sons, Duane R. Whitus of Gladwater, TX, Ralph L. Whitus (Lisa) of Amelia, and Rodney L. Whitus of Rice; a daughter, Denae W. O’Brien (Tommy) of Prospect; brothers, Harvie Whitus (Becky), Windell Whitus (Glenda), and Joe Whitus (Beverly); sisters, Jane Currey (Johnny) and Billie Boyles (Bimmy), six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Nancy H. Whitus, a brother, E.B. Whitus, and sisters, Helen W. Pomes and Joy W. Dowell.
A graveside funeral service was held on Saturday, May 16 at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
