Construction of a four-story Holiday Inn Express and Suites could begin this fall in Farmville.

Management Services Corp. (MSC) Vice President of Development Trey Steigman says this firm is working with a group of investors to bring a 86-103 room hotel to property behind the Hampton Inn on Sunchase Boulevard off of East Third Street.

“We’re literally right on the cusp of determining what our plan and our program is … Our plan is to develop and bring forward construction of a brand new Holiday Inn Express and Suites,” Steigman said.

He said that the investment group has secured a franchise license agreement to have a Holiday Inn brand of hotel in Farmville.

Specifics, such as square footage and number of guest rooms and conference rooms, aren’t nailed down, he said.

“We are 100 percent sure it will be a Holiday Inn Express and Suites. It will be located directly behind the Hampton Inn that’s there now.”

The property directly behind the Hampton Inn is zoned B-3, business, according to the town. The land is owned by Farmville Too, LLC, which has a principal address of 102 S. First St., Charlottesville —- the same address as MSC’s.

MSC is responsible for the commercial development of Sunchase Cinema 8, the retail stores around it, the Hampton Inn, Sunchase Apartments and the new dialysis center.

“We’re still in the initial stages of design development for this project,” Steigman said.

He said the target for the construction start is this fall with the hotel opening in fall 2017.

“(The investment group is) led by our principal investor, who is Douglas E. Caton. Mr. Caton is the primary investor in the Sunchase-Farmville Apartments. He is the primary investor in the Hampton Inn- Farmville, the primary investor in pretty much all the assets that are there,” Steigman said.
