The election for three Farmville Town Council members is set for May 3, but, closer on the horizon is the filing deadline, which is March 1.
Only one candidate — Dan Dwyer — has announced a candidacy to The Herald.
According to Prince Edward Voter Registrar Lynette Wright, “All wards will vote for one at-large member of town council. Wards D and E will also vote for one member of town council to represent their ward.”
Town Manager Gerald Spates said the three seats up for election are currently held by J.J. “Jamie” Davis, Ward E, Donald L. Hunter, Ward D, and Dwyer, at-large.
Spates said Dwyer is the only sitting council member that has announced his candidacy and circulated petitions.
While Wright said the timetable for the election will be posted publicly, voters should “remember Virginia Law requires photo ID to vote.” The deadline for voter registration to be eligible to participate in the general election is April 11 at 4:30 p.m.
Wright said re-registration is not required if a voter’s current information is accurate.
All candidate declarations and petitions must be filed no later than March 1 at 7 p.m. with the registrar.
“In addition to regular office hours, the voter registration office will be open on Saturday, April 30, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for absentee voting,” said Wright.
“Absentee Ballot Applications requesting a ballot by mail must be received in the registrar’s office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 26.”
