“M & M: Meditation and Mandalas,” a Central Virginia Arts workshop will be presented by Cynthia Bergstrom Devlin on Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mainly Clay, 217 N. Main Street in Farmville.
Cynthia will introduce the creation of mandalas, “sacred circles” in Sanskrit, using oil pastels. A gentle centering practice will be used to begin each segment of the workshop.
In the morning, a step- by- step process of creative visualization for accessing guidance and integration will be used. The afternoon class will include teachings from Kellogg’s Grand Round of Mandalas, the stages of self-development and ways to use one’s mandala practice to integrate over time. Participants will create unique mandalas, combining ancient and recent practices to facilitate insight, self-expression and healing.
Cynthia’s own passion for painting was recovered after moving to Farmville from Minnesota in 1990. Like so many people, she’d forgotten to take time for her artistic expression and was eventually guided by her dreams back to art. Now, playing primarily with acrylics and watercolors, Cynthia describes her paintings as “intuitive art,” continuing to tap into her dreams, inner vision and creative source. She is especially enthusiastic about encouraging others to develop a personal practice, which may include creating mandalas for accessing creativity, healing and enjoyment. This class teaches some of core approaches useful in accessing untapped inner and outer resources.
With more than 20 years offering holistic approaches in her private counseling practice , Cynthia Devlin now partners with Patricia Thorne to offer services at Devlin and Thorne Counseling Center. Cynthia has been a member of Central Virginia Arts since coming to Farmville and encourages others to consider becoming involved in this local group promoting educational and experiential work in the arts.
The workshop fee is $15 for CVA members and $25 for non-members. Preregistration is requested since space is limited. Send check made out to CVA to C. Devlin, 1 Mill St., #201, Farmville, VA. 23901. Please include your contact information. Call 434-603-7905 or more information.
