During Winter Storm Jonas, over 60 staff at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville stayed at the hospital on Friday and Saturday night to care for patients and maintain hospital operations. “We had staff who voluntarily cleared … cars of snow and ice to assist their fellow employees,” said hospital CEO Tom Angelo in an email to the facility’s staff. Nurses, doctors, medical staff, food service staff, housekeeping staff and other employees stayed in vacant rooms and in other spaces. Four of the employees who stayed the weekend are, from left, Shannon Hancock, Tenesha Anderson, Amanda Stearrett and Patti Winborne. We commend the hospital employees for going the extra mile to care for our community. Angelo said the staff amazes him every day, and we share his sentiment.
