Christine Claybrook Arrington

Christine Claybrook Arrington, 91, of Farmville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2016 in Richmond.

Her late husband preceded her in death, Albert Murray Arrington Sr. Christine was born in Charlotte County on July 30, 1924, the daughter of the late Fred B. Claybrook and Virginia Tuck Claybrook.

Christine graduated from Randolph Henry High School in 1942 and went on to graduate from the Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. As a registered nurse she served in various hospitals for the American Red Cross including St. Mary’s Hospital for Polio Victims in Pierre, SD and Quantico Naval Hospital. While living in Richmond, she nursed at the Richmond Alcoholic Sanitarium. After moving to Farmville in 1954, Christine nursed at Southside Community Hospital and worked as the secretary for her husband’s State Farm Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1987. Since 1976, Christine was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church serving as WMU President, Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School director.

Playing cards was one of her passions, and she had a very competitive edge. Christine was an avid nature lover and gained great pleasure feeding her birds. Cooking and caring for family and friends brought Christine the most joy. All who knew her will remember her generosity and kindness.

Christine is survived by one son, Albert Murray Arrington Jr.; two daughters, Lisa Arrington Carrington and Sharon Mintoria Arrington, all of Richmond. She has three grandchildren, Dawn A. Arthur (Shane) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Albert M. Arrington III (Vicky) of Charlotte, NC and Jeffrey D. Arrington of Charleston, SC; one great-granddaughter, Whitney Marie Arthur of Roanoke Rapids, NC; sisters, Vivian C. Foster (Buck) of Richmond and Sandra C. Odom of Virginia Beach; one brother, Ted Claybrook (Carol) of Richmond; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred Claybrook, Leland Claybrook, Curtis Claybrook, and Elton Claybrook and two sisters, Bertha C. Morrison and June C. Duffy.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 30 at Heritage Baptist Church, Farmville, with interment to follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 30 from 1 p.m.–2 p.m. at the church.
