April 9 – Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, and Jane Cooke and her grandson, Sam Givens, both of Brookneal, all enjoyed an afternoon meal at a Lynchburg restaurant on Wednesday, April 1.

Happy birthday wishes are sent out to Wanda Albrecht, of New Canton, who celebrated on Wednesday, April 13.

Welcome home to Darlene Christian, of New Canton, who spent some time in the hospital. She is said to be doing okay as of this writing.

Annie May Miles and Susie Taylor, both of Dillwyn, along with Patricia Woodfin, of New Canton, and Barry and Linda Miles, all enjoyed an afternoon meal at a Midlothian restaurant on Thursday, April 2.

Elizabeth Stone, of Dillwyn, spent the weekend with her daughter, Linda Seay, in Richmond.

Fitzgerald Baptist Church, partnering with Central Virginia Food Bank Feed More program, will be distributing food to Cumberland County residents, including Cartersville residents, on Monday, April 20, from 1-2 p.m. at Southworth Power Equipment, located on Anderson Highway. Individuals must have registered in December 2014 or must see director Jerry Seal the day of distribution to qualify.

The Buckingham County High School alumni invites all to join them for “Let’s Fight Cancer Together” Car and Bike Show, on Saturday, April 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at Teresa’s Place, located on North James Madison Highway in Dillwyn next to Sprouses Corner. There will be awards given in the following categories: Cars best in show, first and second place winners per 1960’s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000-10, 2010-present and drag car. Motorcycles best in show, first and second place, in the following categories: Domestic and Metric.

There will be music by Isaac Randoff and 50/50 raffle tickets.

All proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Society in honor of loved ones lost to cancer. The rain date is Saturday, April 25.

Loaves of Love food pantry, operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cartersville. The food pantry is designed for Cumberland County residents, which includes Cartersville. The next food distribution will be held on Sunday, April 19, from 2-3 p.m. for those 60 and older and disabled veterans. Then from 3-4 p.m., distribution will be held for qualifying individuals, those 59 years and younger. Individuals qualify under age 59 based on employment and income. They must bring in two forms of ID, including a photo ID and proof that they reside in Cumberland, such as an electric bill, tax bill or voter ID. NOTE: All food boxes are served on a first-come first-served basis.

Spreading God’s Gifts Inc. is a nonprofit organization serving Buckingham and surrounding areas. They will be hosting a potluck supper on Tuesday, April 21, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Buckingham Baptist Church, located on U.S. Route 15 north of Dillwyn on North James Madison Highway in Arvonia.

The public is cordially invited to attend for a time of fellowship and to bring a covered dish for the meal. A donation box will be available for those who feel led to donate.
